Positioned at the western side of a wildlife-rich grassland this elegant tented camp was originally the home of Kerry Glen and James Christian, the owners of Karisia Walking Safaris. The camp overlooks a salt lick that attracts much of Laikipia’s large game. Tumaren Camp offers seven spacious sleeping tents thoughtfully equipped with convenient lighting, ensuite bathrooms, and modern flush toilets as well as expansive views of the country below and the animal visitors at the salt.
Tumaren is a place where you can fully immerse yourself in Laikipia’s rich ecology and natural history through a range of activities. From guided walks to leisurely camel rides and delightful picnics, each experience brings you closer to the land. Guests can also enjoy game drives, top-rope rock climbing, visits to local markets and schools, or even challenge our primary school students to a game of ultimate frisbee. Wildlife enthusiasts and photographers will find plenty to capture, whether embarking on game drives or simply watching animals gather at the waterhole. For those seeking relaxation, there’s a stunning 20-meter pool with sweeping views of the plains, where wildlife often wanders past.
Each tent at Tumaren provides a cozy retreat, featuring plush double beds for couples, while four tents are specially designed to accommodate families or groups of friends. These tents have partitions and the option to add extra beds, transforming them into family units for up to four or five guests. Our experienced Laikipia Masai and Samburu guides, all local to the area, will customize your stay to match your interests. Tumaren offers the perfect mix of comfort and adventure, making it an unforgettable destination to experience the beauty of this unique region of Kenya.
