Need some help packing?

When on safari we recommend tan, green or brown coloured clothing during the day but it is not necessary by any means and it is nice to have some colorful clothing to wear at lodges or camps in the evening. White clothing though is not recommended on safari because it stands out from a distance and it dirties quickly. If you are going to the coast normal beach attire is fine. We try to respect the more conservative traditions of the Swahili culture and in towns and villages we cover up a bit - Bathing suits appropriate at St. Tropez may not be as appropriate on the East African coast.

NOTE: Most internal flights will allow 15 kgs baggage ONLY. If you are concerned you might need more please let us know. Laundry can be done throughout your safari.

Clothing List

  • 1 Pair Running Shoes / Light Hiking Shoes, preferably with thick or heavy duty soles, no air pockets (thorns can pop them) and not mesh (seeds pass through)

  • Sometimes when it is dry gaiters are recommended to protect socks (Salomon Trail Gaiters are good, small and compact). Ask about current conditions.

  • 1 Pair Flip Flops / Sandals

  • 1 Hat that can shade face and neck

  • 1 Light Windbreaker / Light Rain Jacket

  • 1 Sweater / Sweatshirt / Fleece

  • 2 Pairs of Light Trousers

  • 2 Pairs of Shorts or skirts

  • 4 Long Sleeve or 3/4 length Safari Shirts

  • 4 T-Shirts

  • 7 Sets of Underwear (sports bras recommended)

  • 7 pairs of Socks (thin low socks that don't catch seeds recommended)
    NOTE: Most places will NOT wash women’s underwear but many hotels will provide hand washing soap in the rooms.

  • (Optional) 1 Pair of Gaiters for seeds, and thorns.

  • Swimsuit and Sarong / Kikoi for the beach (Kikoi can be purchased in Kenya)

  • Belt

Sundries

  • Binoculars

  • Head Torch (with extra batteries)

  • Passport plus money for tips and gifts (atm machines available in many locations that will give you shillings)

  • Cash for curios and presents. This value differs drastically between visitors. One thing we positively do not recommend are Traveler’s Cheques which are very difficult to exchange here.

  • Credit Cards / Debit Cards – ATM or cash points work in Kenya and are found in all the larger cities.
