This is probably our most popular trip because of the increased chances of encountering some our most elusive wildlife on foot. Like for the 3 Night Tumaren Trip, we will be walking through Acacia mellifera woodlands as well as large grassy plains. We will be scaling up rocks and spotting what game lies ahead and choosing our best routes accordingly.
We typically start off after an early breakfast but sometimes we might also pack a bush breakfast so that we can start out even earlier. We arrive in camp before a very welcome lunch in the shade. In the evenings we typically walk for a bit stopping someplace pretty to enjoy the view and sip a few sundowners. This safari begins in the north east of our conservation area and traverses the span of that area to finish on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River.
A five day safari allows us to get into the rhythm of the bush. By the last days of the trip the bird sounds have now become familiar even to foreign ears. The team too from the guides to the camel handlers have become familiar faces and smiles each day.
Often times on our mobile walks around Tumaren we finish at or near the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve. When we arrive at the Ewaso Nyiro we may want to take a quick swim before lunch. After lunch, a rest and sundowners on a high rocky hillside we will return to our camp on the river for dinner and a toast to our adventure.
We have an airstrip nearby that Charter flights land at and we also use Nanyuki town 2 hours to the south. The scheduled flights service Nanyuki and we can provide transfers to and from these flights.
