Pilates with Vic, Walking, Camels & Climbing !
There is no better way to improve mind and body than in a beautiful natural area like Tumaren. Atop mountainous Kopjes of granite surrounded by wildlife and beautiful landscapes we will work daily on our Pilates method. Our superhero instructor, is Victoria Kelmanson whose dedication to anatomy and physiology began with a university degree and culminated in her teaching Pilates trainers at the largest training program within Europe. Our safari is the perfect combination between wilderness, wildlife and fitness and guided by some of the best trackers and walking guides in Kenya.
Night 1:
We can meet in Nanyuki as you arrive from the scheduled flight from Nairobi. Our drivers can then drive you on a beautiful 2 hours ride to our first camp at the base of an ancient rock Kopje, Naiasura. As the day begins to cool off we will head out on a short stroll looking for wildlife and back to camp for an evening session of Pilates by the glowing fire. After hot showers we will enjoy cocktails and dinner under the stars.
Night 2:
We will be woken up early with hot water in our basins outside our tents and tea and coffee at the rocks. Following tea and coffee we will enjoy Sunrise Pilates as the dawn chorus serenades us. After a light breakfast we will walk with the camels through the morning to our next camp beneath another large granitic hill called losaramoru. The camels accompany us and can be ridden along the journey also they will bear our snacks and drinks for the walk. We will arrive at our next Camp in time for a healthy but delicious lunch as well as a well deserved rest or read after.
For those who want to try their hand at rock climbing loseramoru is the perfect spot with a choice of easy to tricky climbs with Mt Kenya as the backdrop. For those who have exercised enough, the drive and the views are well worth it and watching the sunset from the peak is also a choice activity, especially while spying for the Leopards and Striped Hyenas that call the rocks home.
Night 3:
After a brief morning stretch as well as a light breakfast we will depart on an early morning walk in search of wildlife, specifically predators. Our next camp will be at Tumaren Camp and we can take our time looking for tracks and following the water drainages that the big cats and other predators like to visit. At camp, like on other days, we will arrive before lunch and enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool and the comfort of Tumaren’s beautiful camp.
After lunch and the usual rest we will walk a short distance down to a beautiful short grass glade to practice pilates. The area is a good place for spotting the wildlife and birds that may appear mid session. In the evening we can find sundowners at a rock outcropping nearby and then back at camp hot showers, a delicious meal and drinks by the fire.
Night 4:
Wake up to birdsong and start off early walking east towards a beautiful rocky kopje. Mid walk we will stop for a beautiful bush breakfast beneath some Acacia trees with the option of another nearby rock-climb should anyone like.
A tasty lunch and drinks will be served in the mess tent looking out over the salt lick that attracts a menagerie of game species. In the evening we will have a Sundown pilates session on the plain before Tumaren as the giraffes skirt us to get to their salt; the setting sun shedding its last orange light on all the bending figures. Drinks, a fire and a hearty dinner back at Tumaren.
Day 5:
Some might enjoy one last early morning walk while others might prefer a slight sleep in before breakfast. After breakfast our Karisia drivers will bring you back to Nanyuki for your onward flight or possibly more safari or adventure (and we are happy to make suggestions and arrangements).
