Day 1: Sinyai Lugga

In camp we will be greeted by our local team of cooks, camel guys, and guides. After a refreshing lunch we will enjoy a rest before a short evening walk down the sand river ending with sundowners on a tall promontory with a commanding view. Greater Kudu inhabit the hillsides that slope down toward our camp and we will scan for these elusive animals. Back at camp we will find our welcoming campfire on the edge of the sandy lugga. After hot showers and drinks around the fire we will have a sit down dinner under the stars.

Day 2: Nayasura

We will drive to camp where we will be greeted by our local team of cooks, camel guys, and trackers.The local Laikipia Masai call these rocks Nayasura and stone chippings suggest that they have been used as a camp for millennia. We too will use the rocks starting with a refreshing lunch and short rest in our classic roomy safari tents. After lunch we will head out on a short walk looking for game and getting a feel for the country. As the sun begins to set we will find ourselves at the crest of Nayasura with drinks and bitings, watching the baboons come back to roost on the face of the rock

Day 3: Nyarara

From Nayasura we will head out early after breakfast so to see as much game as possible on our walk north towards Nyarara Camp. Nyarara means Cheetah in Masai and the camp was given this name because of a large male that has been seen in the area. Along our walk we will walk across large plains as well as mixed bush. Herds of Zebra, Oryx and Grant’s gazelle predominate on the large plains. In the mixed bush we find Dikdiks, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu if we are lucky enough to see them. We will arrive at camp in time for lunch. The pack camels with our camp will have made a more direct route than us and so they will have arrived before us and set up most of camp before our arrival. After lunch we will relax and walk to a pretty spot for sundowners.

Day 4: Tumaren Ewaso Camp

Today we will be heading down toward the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve. Along the way we will be looking for Eland, Steinbuck and Giraffe and enjoy the changing scenery.

When we arrive at the Ewaso Nyiro we may want to take a quick swim before lunch. After lunch, a rest and sundowners on a high rocky hillside we will return to our camp on the river for dinner and a toast to our adventure.

Day 5: Tumaren Camp

From the river we will walk east towards Tumaren Camp finding as many game and interesting ecology along the way. As you step into Tumaren Camp, time slows to the rhythm of the wilderness. The shade of towering acacias dapples your tent, and beyond, the golden plains stretch endlessly, dotted with zebra and giraffe. The afternoon invites a leisurely camel walk, where each footfall brings you deeper into Laikipia’s serenity, accompanied by the distant echo of a hornbill’s call. Later, gather in the open-air lounge as the sky blazes with sunset hues, a cool drink in hand, while our guides share stories of the land. The evening is spent fireside, with the hush of the bush punctuated only by the distant roar of a lion or the soft hoot of a Scops owl.

Day 5: Tumaren Camp

Wake to the soft glow of dawn and the distant whoop of hyenas, knowing the day ahead is yours to shape. Perhaps you’ll start with a visit to the Ol Donyo Nyiro market, where stalls overflow with fresh produce, colorful fabrics, and exquisite Maasai beadwork, offering a glimpse into the daily rhythms of Laikipia life. Or maybe you’ll opt for a morning of rock climbing, testing your skills on ancient granite faces with sweeping views of the savannah below. Prefer something more hands-on? Settle under the shade of an acacia and learn the delicate craft of Maasai beading from local artisans. And for those with energy to spare, the afternoon brings a lively game of ultimate frisbee, where you can join our team in a friendly match against the students from the neighboring school. However you choose to spend your day, the evening finds you once more under Tumaren’s endless sky, the embers of the campfire flickering as stories and laughter weave into the night.
