A Biking, Walking Gamedriving Safari
- 10 Nights on safari
Arrival
Night 1. International Flights to Kenya tend to land in the evening so we will arrange for a night at a nice hotel that is comfortable and clean but not over the top. This is just a stop off point before coming up north and the Fariview hotel in Nairobi does excellent job for many of our safaris.
Night 2,3. On the morning of the 2nd a Karisia Driver will pick you and your bikes up at the Fairview and drive you on a 3.5 hour trip north through the rich central highlands of Kenya. Your destination is Soames outside of Nanyuki, where you will find an exquisite little hotel looking up toward a towering Mt Kenya. After a lunch and possibly a rest a Karisia Bike Guide will meet you and take you on a short bike ride into the Mt Kenya forest. The forest tracks on the shoulders of the mountain accommodate cattle that come in daily to graze but also Elephants, Bushbucks and Waterbucks that frequent these forests and keep the tracks well groomed. On the third we will take sandwhiches and a packed lunch and spend the day out on a long and adventure filled bike safari looping around Nanyuki and eventually back for sundowners and dinner at Soames hotel.
Night 4,5,6,7: In the morning our Karisia Driver will meet you again at Soames after breakfast and drive you north into Laikipia where you will meet your camels and the Karisia team. We will be starting the safari in the southwest of our conservation area and walking for 4 nights in a northwesterly direction. You will be biking through wildlife rich lands, populated by the largest diversity of large mammals in Kenya. Because the routes are open, though, your guide can easily negotiate our animal friends while giving great opportunities for photography and brief stops to investigate this and that. The camels will go on a direct route to our next camp and be able to set up before lunch. The bikes will always go on a more circuitous route since their range is so much farther. Each morning we will bike in the morning and arrive at our next camp for a late lunch (we can tweak distances easily based on feedback from the group). In the afternoons after a rest or a read you might stretch the legs on a jaunt with our walking rangers to explore a hillside, river drainage and to find some wildlife. We often times then find a nice place to stop mid evening walk for a sundowner. Our final camp will be on the Ewaso Nyiro River where on the final morning we will pack the bikes and riders into vehicles a trip back south to Nairobi.
Night 8, 9,10 From Nairobi you will board a scheduled flight to the Masai Mara to stay at the Kichwa Tembo, a phenomenal lodge in the heart of the Masai Mara. From Kichwa you will be able to access the heart of the Mara and its huge richness of wildlife and beautiful rolling grasslands.
Night 11: Board a night flight home. For any returning bikes we can bring them to the airport to meet you.
