The Ultimate African Safari PlayList
Music has the power to transport us, and the right soundtrack can deepen our connection to the landscapes, cultures, and moments that we experience on safari. This playlist is designed to enhance the safari experience, adding some very deep rhythm, soul, and history to your journey. You can’t fully understand a place without understanding its music, and this collection offers a journey across the continent—melding funky seventies Afrobeat, hypnotic desert blues from Mali, and some legendary sounds from East Africa, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. While this list is by no means exhaustive, it reflects our own personal tastes and appreciation for a wide range of music.
While on safari, nature provides its own incredible soundtrack, from the large predators claiming their territory to a tree frog or the dawn chorus. We encourage guests to fully immerse themselves in the sounds of the wild while on safari and to get as far away as possible from their devices and the temptations therein. However, between camps or in preparation for your journey or maybe on the plane, taxi, or airport are perfect places for blasting some big and beautiful African sounds. These tracks will offer the perfect introduction to Africa's rich musical landscape and they span many years from the present to the 1960s. This list also spans many modern traditions from Afrobeat to Rap to Jazz to Mali Blues to haunting traditional Batwa songs from the Congo and Maasai Songs from Kenya (that may be far more older than we can ever know). We invite all our guests and all other visitors to Africa to immerse themselves in some of the sounds from the continent. Also, if you have any suggestions please do share them. Great music, like a great safari, is best when shared and continually evolving. Enjoy!
