Socially-Distanced Do-it-Yourself Camping on Tumaren !
Greetings from all of us at Tumaren. The rains have arrived and the dams are all filling up and the river is in full flow. Like everyone in tourism, we’re going to have a tough year. The conservation work that we do on Tumaren and our surrounding area is entirely dependent on the revenue that we earn from our safaris. Without that work we are going to struggle to keep our rangers and team paid. In order to sustain our conservation work we are offering socially distanced self-help camping. Our property right now has excellent wildlife and it would be a pity if visitors were not able to safely enjoy some time alone in the bush.
Our plan is to assist campers who would like to enjoy our area, paying only our nominal and affordable conservation fees. For a little extra we can provide a camp or part of it (toilets and shade etc) and our guides will meet you at a safe social distance but will not enter within your camp. They can offer ideas and communicate the presence of wildlife or for an extra activity take you walking with your family again at a safe distance behind. For self drive game drives we have devised a digital map which you can use with Gaia GPS (an excellent wilderness GPS app for your phone which makes recording and sharing tracks and waypoints very easy). We can provide a person to help wash the dishes and fill the showers and make suggestions for ready made meals should you want these.
We have found that the greatest therapy for surviving the anxiety of this pandemic is nature, animals and family. With all these combined, you can’t go wrong. Contact us if you would like to come spend some time on Tumaren and we will tailor make your Covid camping experience.
