18 New Climbing Routes on Tumaren and Vicinity !!
When we began climbing on Tumaren nearly 15 years ago, we had no idea how popular it would be. As climbing gyms have exploded in cities all over the world so too has the desire of their patrons to try their skills on real rock. To do so in a wilderness occupied by the largest diversity of large mammals in Kenya is epic fun.
Responding to this popularity we invited 2 superb rock climbing specialists to put in 18 new top-rope climbing routes. On three different prominent kopjes in our area, Schaniela Wright and Matt Wood drilled paired anchors that are safe and easy for our guides to reach, rope and rig a belay. Matt and Schaniela also did a thorough audit of all our climbing guides and gear and it was a great pleasure for all of us to climb together.
We are lucky to have some excellent granite rock climbing adjacent to many of our safari areas and we are excited to be developing more routes for all skill levels. In fact, on March (14th - 15th) we have a climbing weekend planned, dedicated specifically to vertical adventures on and around all our favorite Tumaren climbing sites.
Below are some images of a few of the new routes as well as a link to https//www.crag.com where you can learn more about almost all of our climbing opportunities at Tumaren.
