10 to 4 BIKING & CAMEL SAFARI – 5 NIGHTS (in conjunction with the Mt Kenya 10 to 4)

As one of the leading Adventure Safari Specialists in Kenya, Karisia has teamed up with the Mount Kenya Trust 10 to 4 mountain bike challenge to provide the ultimate five night Mountain bike holiday. While cycling across the plains, gorges and woodlands of northern Kenya your luggage and safari camp will be transported by camel.

We are providing you with two options: to have your holiday before the 10-4 mountain bike challenge or after.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OPTION 1

Feb 16: Sinyai Lugga

You will be met in Nairobi at Jomo Kenyatta International airport and taken to the start of the safari, with your bikes packed in the vehicle. The drive is about 6 hours and after Nanyuki the drive is through pretty countryside, seeing wildlife and rural Kenya along the way. You will stop for lunch in Nanyuki (extra) before carrying on to Laikipia. On this safari you can either walk or ride your bike, the bikers will go on a longer route and meet up with the walking group at lunchtime in the next camp.

In camp you will be greeted by our team of cooks, camel guys, and guides. After a refreshing lunch you will enjoy a rest before a short evening walk and sundowners on a tall promontory with a commanding view. Greater Kudu inhabit the hillsides that slope down toward our camp and you can scan for these elusive animals. Back at camp you will find a welcoming campfire on the edge of the sandy lugga and hot showers. Dinner always includes healthy but delicious fare.

Feb 17: Nayasura Camp / Tumaren

You will wake up early and start walking or biking towards the next camp. The camels will follow with the camp. A beautiful outcrop of stone overshadows the camp which can be seen for miles as you approach on foot or by bike. The local Laikipia Masai call these rocks Nayasura and stone chippings suggest that they have been used as a camp for millennia. After lunch you will head out on a short walk looking for game. As the sun begins to set you will find yourself at the crest of Nayasura with drinks and bitings watching the baboons come back to roost on the face of the magnificent rock.

Feb 18: Tumaren Ewaso Camp

Today you will be heading down towards the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve. Along the way you will be looking for Eland, Steinbuck, Giraffe, Waterbuck, Grevy Zebra as well as all the tough-to-see predators such as Wild Dog, Hyena, Lion, Leopard or Cheetah. You will spend the afternoon by the river, swimming and fishing before an evening walk to a sundowner spot looking towards Mt. Kenya.

Feb 19: 10 to 4 Bike Camp.

Bid farewell to the camels and team and drive to 10 to 4 base camp in time for tea time. Camping in tents with a toilet and shower behind each tent. The camp is situated at the end of the race.

Feb 20: 10 to 4 Bike Camp.

Drive to the start of the race which is about 45 minutes from the campsite and compete in the greatest bike race in East Africa. After a relaxing afternoon there is a dinner and party in the evening. Drinks are extra.

Feb 21: Travel Day

Drive back to Nairobi after the race in time for your evening flight.

NOTE: If you would like to spend the night of the 15th in Nairobi we can arrange this for an extra US$ 150 per person staying at Country Lodge or the Fairview, B&B accommodation. This includes pick up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and collection for the start of the safari.
